You will develop high level, employable and transferable skills in A Level Physics including: applied mathematical skills, problem solving, communication, analytical skills, organisation, experimental skills and scientific methodology. We also offer teaching by dedicated and experienced teachers who stop at nothing to ensure that you make progress, positive relationships between staff and students and examination results which show that we are good at ‘adding value’ to students. Content is split into six teaching modules: Module 1 - Development of practical skills in physics Module 2 - Foundations of physics Module 3 - Forces and motion Module 4 - Electrons, waves and photons Module 5 - Newtonian world and astrophysics Module 6 - Particles and medical physics
Grade 7 in double award GCSE Science or grade 7 in GCSE Physics Grade 6 in GCSE Maths.
Students will be assessed at the end of the 2 year course over 3 exams covering content from both years (modules 1-6). Modelling Physics and Exploring Physics both carry 37%, and are worth 100 marks; Unified Physics carries 26% and is worth 70 marks. Each module has a set of complimentary Student Assessment Groups (PAGs), which are the practical assessments. These require the students to successfully complete practical activities along with a set of questions. These questions could be drawing diagrams, analysing graphs or data, or simply evaluating the experiment they have just completed. The practical assessment is separate from the examination. Upon completing the course, the students will achieve a grade along with a ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ for their practical skills.
