A Level History at The West Coventry Sixth Form encourages you to explore the events and issues that have shaped the world we live in. The focus is on modern European history and 20th century British history, both with an emphasis on change and development over time. There is an opportunity to complete an in-depth study on a specially selected area of British or world history. You will learn about: Germany 1817-1991. • The unification of the German nation and the individuals behind it. • How important the role key individuals and groups played. • The extent of cultural, social and political change within Germany. The Making of Modern Britain 1951-1979 • The Affluent Society to the end of the PostWar Consensus • The Impact of Thatcherism • A New Consensus to the Era of New Labour
Both internal and external pupils wishing to enter the sixth form will be expected to have met the same minimum academic entry requirements for the sixth form. This is a minimum of 3 GCSE grade 4s and grade 4 in English AND Maths. This course additionally requires grade 5 History and grade 5 English (6 preferred). The course is comprised of 3 components: a breath study (component 1) worth 40%, a depth study (component 2) worth 40% these both run throughout the duration of the AS and A-Level course, and the historical enquiry (component 3) worth 20%.
