The Diploma focuses on performance using practical skills, knowledge and understanding and is an ideal pathway to a range of careers within engineering. Mandatory units include Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace; Mechanical Principles and Applications; Electrical and Electronic Principles; and Mathematics for Engineering Technicians. You will also choose five of the following as optional units Engineering Design; Commercial Aspects of Engineering Organisations; Properties and Applications of Engineering Materials; Applications of Mechanical Systems in Engineering; Electro; Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems and Devices; Selection and Using Programmable Controllers; Electrical Installation.
4 GCSEs at Grade D/3 or above including English and Maths. Learners with lower grades or relevant experience will be considered subject to an additional assessment and/or supporting reference from their school or employer. If you miss the English and/or Maths requirements of your course, don't worry - there are options to study these alongside your course.
Each unit is assessed by a formal portfolio of written reports and documented practical work. There are no external exams for this course.
