History is a universally well-respected subject that provides its students with a greater depth of understanding of the world in which we live. The opportunity to complete independent coursework through an historical enquiry of your choice will prepare you for the demands of university. The skills developed through history also apply widely to a number of different career paths including teaching, law, accountancy, surveying, police, tourism, archival work and direct historical work through archaeology and museum curation.
• A minimum of a grade 6 in history and English at GCSE. • Grade 5 students will be considered on an individual basis. • An enthusiasm and passion for the subject is also required.
The A - level history course comprises of two years, with exams in three topics at the end of the second year. You will also be required to complete a coursework topic of an historical enquiry of your choice. The topics are delivered through the OCR exam board and are made up of 'The Cold War' in Europe 1941-1995, 'The Later Tudors and Elizabeth' 1547-1603 and 'Russia and its Rulers'.
