Course summary

The opportunities for students of Chemistry on completion of full time education are vast. There are many possible careers within the scientific world and qualifications in Science subjects are acceptable as an entry into many other careers. Former students have followed these career paths: Medicine, Dentistry, Forensic Science, Pharmacy, Medical Science, Chemical Engineering, Research Chemistry, Nursing, Oil and Petroleum Science, Apprenticeships with Jaguar Land Rover, Environmental Chemistry and Waste Management The Chemistry course offered at Walsall Academy is designed to provide academic and vocational experiences. It will prepare students for their choice of career in both the world of work and Higher Education. We have many visiting speakers including ex- students advising on apprenticeship opportunities and a “Spectroscopy in a Suitcase” workshop. UCAT preparation sessions are organised for those interested in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Sciences. University led careers workshops are provided each year. Session 3 exam preparation is offered for all students. Career focussed work placements are available on a regular basis or in a two week block.

Entry requirements

- 4 GCSEs (Grades 9 - 4) including English and Mathematics at a minimum of grade 5 - Grade 6-6 in GCSE Combined Science or Grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry - Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics and Grade 5 in GCSE English Language
