The opportunities for students of English Literature are wide ranging. A level Courses in English Literature complement other Sixth Form courses and are designed to encourage wide reading and advanced detailed research within the whole field of literary studies. Qualifications in English Literature are desirable as an entry to many different careers. These may include: Marketing, Journalism, Education, Film Production, Media Studies, Creative Writing, Social Sciences. All courses at Walsall Academy are designed to provide academic and vocational experiences. They will prepare students for their choice of career in both the world of work and Higher Education. Key Stage 5 students attend theatre productions in top national theatres such as The Rep in Birmingham, the RSC in Stratford, The Crucible in Sheffield, The Lowry in Manchester and The Globe in London. Students have attended Royal Shakespeare Society classes to work with academics and professional actors. We have also visited the Universities of Warwick, Aston and Birmingham where students have attended lectures on aspects of literature. Many students participate in our literacy programmes helping younger students with reading and writing. The English department also provides extra-curricular activities, such as dystopian literature and film club, which engage students in learning beyond the confines of their subjects.
- 4 GCSEs (Grades 9 - 4) including English and Mathematics at a minimum of grade 5 - Grade 6 in GCSE English Literature and Grade 5 in GCSE English Language.
