Students who have the ability to offer potential employers a competent and fluent level of German with high degree of accuracy, possess an extremely marketable and sought after skill. With the ongoing development and rapidity of international communications, the relevant and value of a foreign language has never been more obvious. Furthermore, continuing with a language sets a solid base for learning further languages at a later stage. A-Level Courses are now being designed to incorporate a vocational as well as an academic dimension, preparing students for exciting career opportunities in a wide range of professions. Students also study a film and a literary text to further deepen their knowledge and cultural understanding. Aside from film and literary studies, the course is topic based and touches on issues such as youth culture, customs and festivals, and the division of Germany during the Cold War. These courses will also serve as excellent preparation for students wishing to proceed to Higher Education. Advanced Level German aims to provide students with a thorough knowledge of the target language and culture, and to develop the skill of speaking with a high degree of fluency. Former students have continued to study Languages to degree level at Oxford, Nottingham and Sheffield. Students on this course are encouraged to spend time in Germany during their two years of study. We offer students the opportunity to visit German speaking countries. We encourage students to immerse themselves in the language by regularly watching German films available on streaming services and in our school library, by reading German texts, and by listening to German music. Students can also attend German events hosted by universities. At Walsall Academy, Session 3 is available to students to practise exam technique, watch a variety of foreign language programmes and to further develop speaking skills.
