Mathematics (Statistics)
Course summary
Statistics is an application of mathematics and a field of study in its own right. Our lives are influenced increasingly by statistics and knowing just how it fits into other areas of life is a definite advantage. Statistics is used in many careers, for example deciding how much of a product a supermarket needs to buy, whether or not a new drug has a positive effect on a serious illness or understanding statements and figures quoted by politicians. Most careers now require some understanding of statistics. Statistics combines well with a broad range of subjects, including Biology, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, Economics and Business Studies. This subject will appeal to those who want to study a numerate subject but do not want to study lots of algebra and pure mathematics.
