Course summary

Physics at A-Level is a demanding but rewarding subject. It builds upon concepts covered at GCSE but looks to answer the question “why does it happen?” Choosing this course will also provide you with the opportunity to study new ideas from tiny Quarks to the whole Universe. In Year 12, topics include: Measurements and their errors; particles and radiation; waves; mechanics and materials; electricity. In Year 13, the following are also covered: periodic notion, thermal physics, fields and their consequences, nuclear physics, and then either astrophysics, medical physics, turning point physics or electronics.

Entry requirements

Waddesdon Points System to enter the Sixth Form explained in the prospectus. Minimum of 65 in GCSE Science, 6 in GCSE Maths and 6 on the GCSE Physics paper.

How you'll be assessed

A level examinations: Two 2 hour papers (34% each) - Multiple choice section. - Synoptic short and long answer questions. - Questions on the required practicals. One 2 hour paper on the Option (32%) Required practicals.
