This course allows students to apply economic theory to support analysis of current economic problems and issues. It explores both the national and international economies and how these affect both businesses and individuals. The two main topic areas are micro and macroeconomics. The course helps to develop both analytical and quantitative skills. Case studies are varied and can be taken from the UK, EU, or wider global economy. Throughout the course, a range of learning methods will be used, including class discussions, group work, and independent research. These methods will be used to explore current issues, such as recession, economic growth, budget deficits, and competition.
All students must achieve at least five grades 5-9 (including Maths and English). Students are expected to have achieved a Grade 6 in GCSE English or Grade 6 in GCSE Maths.
