This course provides students with a solid theoretical understanding of many of the challenges facing businesses in an ever changing business environment. Students explore businesses from a range of size and ownership perspectives and the decisions these businesses make at different stages of operation. Topics are covered with consistent application to real world business examples, with news stories, case studies and scenarios being incorporated into all lessons. The processes pursued by businesses in order to make strategic decisions, including the impact of the external environment such as economic factors, ethics and international trade are also studied and explored in depth. The A Level in Business provides students with a range of skills, knowledge and experience that will support them in Higher Education and employment after Sixth Form. A Level Business is assessed through the completion of three examination units at the end of Year 13. Component One: Business Opportunities and Business Functions Component Two: Business Analysis and Strategy Component Three: Business in a Changing World Year 12 explores the fundamental themes and concerns when setting up and running a business enterprise before exploring the functional activities that take place in a typical corporation such as Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and Operations. Year 13 shifts focus to consider the more strategic elements of the course, students gain an understanding of the challenges faced by senior leaders both from within their business, and from the external environment.
Minimum Grade 5 GCSE in / English / Maths Or/ Distinction in any BTEC taken in KS4.
3 external examinations completed at the end of Year 13 Each exam is worth 1/3 of the final grade awarded.
