
This course leads to an A level in English Language and Literature. Students study a range of literary and non-literary texts. The course includes the study of speech, prose, poetry and drama and the opportunity to write creatively in response co studied texts. Students are expected to read widely, including literature, newspapers, magazines, leaflets, information texts and co listen to spoken language critically.
At least a grade 5 in GCSE English is required in order to be accepted on to the course. A willingness to expand general knowledge, to read a variety of fiction and non fiction texts and an interest in the ways language is used are all essential for the course.
Assessment is by examinations and a coursework investigation.
