Students with an interest in physical, human and environmental geography will find this course particularly engaging as it offers much understanding of our planet. Knowledge and understanding of the core themes along with fieldwork and research skills are key features of this course. An element of out-of-classroom activity, both teacher led and by independent research augments the class based study of geography at A level. The course includes traditional geographical topics such as ‘Tectonic Processes’, ‘Globalisation’ and ‘Glaciated Landscapes’ with less familiar themes such as the ‘Regeneration’ adding a new dynamic to students’ geographical studies. This A level would lead directly into subject related university courses and careers, and indirectly into a wide range of higher education courses and career choices. - BA (Hons)/BSc (Hons) Geography - BA (Hons) Geography with Business - Careers in environmental management e.g. Environmental Consultant - Careers related to climatology e.g. Meteorologist.
4 grade 4's and 2 grade 5's at GCSE, including grade 5 minimum in either English and Maths or grade 5 or above in GCSE Geography.
Assessment A Level: 3 exams and one piece of coursework Paper 1: (30%) Dynamic Landscapes and Physical Systems & Sustainability Paper 2: (30%) Dynamic Places and Human Systems & Geopolitics Paper 3: (20%) Synoptic Investigation a 3000-4000 word investigation report. Non-examination assessment: (20%)
