This A level course is focused towards consumer products and applications; their analysis in respect of materials, components, and marketability to understand their selection and uses in industrial and commercial practices of product development. During the two year course, you will study a range of materials. You will develop a technical understanding of how products function and how they are made to appropriately support the design and manufacture of your own design solutions. You will learn about wider design principles and the affect of design on users and the world we live in. Towards the end of the first year, you will start the non-examined ‘Iterative Design Project’ which is a substantial design, make and evaluate project centred on the iterative processes of explore, create and evaluate. It is worth 50% of the A Level qualification, and will be completed by the end of March in the final year. This course is most suitable for students who have studied graphic products, product design or resistant materials at GCSE. This A level would lead directly into subject related university courses and careers, and indirectly into a wide range of higher education courses and career choices.
2 grade 4/C's and 4 grade 5's/B's at GCSE. Minimum grade 5 in GCSE Design Technology
