Course summary
The course is the Edexcel English Language specification. Component 1 (language variation) is the study of how and why language varies depending on mode, field, function and audience and why language has changed from 1550 to the present day. Component 2 (child language) is the study of how children learn to speak and write English up the to age of 8 and to develop an understanding of some of the key theories of children's language development. Component 3 (investigating language) allows the development of research and investigation skills, selecting a topic in which to develop a personal language specialism. Component 4 (crafting language) is a coursework composed of two pieces of original writing in the same genre for different audiences with an accompanying commentary reflection on linguistic choices.
