The course follows the AQA English literature B Specification. A range of texts will be studied. Three texts for Paper 1 (Literary Genres - Tragedy) to include one Shakespeare, another drama text and one further text. Three texts for Paper 2 (Texts and genres - political writing) to include one post-2000 prose text; one poetry and one pre-1900 text. The Non Examination Assessment - coursework (Theory and Independence) requires the production of two essays, one on poetry and one on prose.
5 GCSE’s at grade 5+ (or Merit+ in equivalents). If the 5 passes does not include English (language or literature) and mathematics of grade 5+, students must, in addition, achieve at least a grade 4 in English (language or literature) and mathematics. In addition, English language and English Literature at grade 5 or above.
Examinations (three papers) - 80% Non-Examination Assessment - 20%.
