The first year covers classical physics topics such as mechanics, material behaviour, waves and electricity. You will learn about fundamental concepts such as forces, how things move, how energy can be transferred from one place to another, as well as developing your problem-solving skills. The second year of the course explores some more modern physics concepts, including our current understanding of particle physics and the accelerators (such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN) that were used to discover them. You will learn about the history of the universe, the hunt for planets beyond our solar system, and the nuclear reactions that power the stars.
Grade 6 in GCSE Physics, or 6-6 in Combined Science, plus a grade 5 in Mathematics. It is strongly recommended that you study A Level Mathematics alongside A Level Physics.
