Course summary

Further Mathematics A Level is taken in addition to A Level Mathematics. It is designed to stretch and challenge able mathematicians and prepare them for university courses in mathematics and related quantitative and scientific subjects. The Further Mathematics course is encouraged for students intending to study engineering (chemical, mechanical, electronic and electrical, or civil) or mathematics at degree level as it introduces a wider range of pure and applied content. Year 12 Further Maths students are following the AS Further Mathematics specification. All students follow the same course and will study Pure Core Maths and Decision Maths. Year 13 Further Maths students are following the A-level Further Mathematics specification. All students follow the same course and will study Core Pure Maths and Decision Maths which is route K of the specification. At the end of Year 13, they will sit exams in A-level Further Mathematics and the content will cover all areas of the two-year course. The structure is as follows: Paper 1 Core Pure Mathematics 1.5 hours. Paper 2 Core Pure Mathematics 1.5 hours. Paper 1 Decision mathematics 1.5 hours. Paper 2 Decision mathematics 1.5 hours.
