You will study a range of spoken, written and multi-modal texts and investigate how language can be used for different purposes and audiences. These models will then be used to inspire your own persuasive and creative writing. You will also study the variations of language between different genders, ethnicities, social groups, geographical areas and professions as well as learn about how language has changed over time. The course also contains a unit on child language acquisition in which you will research the nature vs nurture debate and explore how children learn to speak, read and write.
Five or more 9-4 grades at GCSE including English and Maths. A grade 5 or higher in GCSE English Language or Literature.
At the end of Year 13, you will take two exams worth 80% of your final grade. You will also complete coursework (worth 20%) which will include a language investigation on a topic of your choice and a piece of original writing paired with a commentary.
