Course summary

If you want to become an accountant or work in a finance role the Level 3 Accounting and Business Finance course is for you. The Accounting and Business Finance course will be studied over two years. During your first year you will enrol on and study the Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), Level 3 Certificate in Financial Studies and Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Business. This is a standalone one-year of study. Upon successful completion of the first year, you can then progress and enrol to study the Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), Level 3 Diploma in Financial Studies and Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Business in your second year. This course is an amalgamation of three separate qualifications giving you a broad ranging knowledge of the finance sector. The combination of Accounting and Business studies is your route to an exciting professional career in the business world. The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Accounting course is an industry standard qualification, which when combined with a nationally recognised Business and Finance certificates, leads to your career options being endless. Enrol on this course and give yourself the competitive edge when applying for employment, Apprenticeships or university level studies.

Entry requirements

The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Accounting and Business Finance are five GCSEs at grades 5 or above (Old GCSE grade C or above) including English Language and Maths at grades 6 or above. OR Merit or Distinction at First Diploma Level in a related subject together with Functional Skills Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent) (Learners undertaking the new Generation NQF BTEC Level 2 Diploma may be accepted with an M D profile; each case will be assessed on an individual basis). It is expected that learners will have completed year one successfully before progressing to year two. Individual cases will be considered.

How you'll be assessed

The AAT qualifications are assessed by computer based examinations taken at appropriate points throughout the year according to the delivery schedule. The Certificate in Financial Studies are assessed with external examinations. The Business Certificate is assessed through internally assessed assignment work, which may include presentations and group work, and externally assessed exams and pre-set tasks.
