Course summary

Students will be expected to keep sketch books which may include samples, experimentation and drawings. Although the course is based on practical work they may sometimes be given written homework. They will need time at home to continue class work. Students will also be expected to develop work in a more independent manner. This will include making self-initiated visits to galleries and exhibitions and taking a generally active interest in art.

Entry requirements

- Students should have obtained 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 or above which should include grade 4 or above in Art or Art Textiles - Individual subject minimum GCSE requirements (these apply in addition to our Sixth Form entry criteria of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Maths*)

How you'll be assessed

Unit 1 Coursework - No time limit Personal Investigation (60% of the total marks) Candidates are required to develop personal investigation based on an idea, issue, concept or theme, supported by a written element of no less than 1000 words and no more than 3000 words, leading to a finished piece or pieces. Unit 2 Supervised time - 15 hours Externally-Set Assignment (40% of the total marks) Candidates should produce preparatory work and a finished piece or pieces. Candidates should be selective when deciding what to submit for this unit.
