Course summary

The opportunities for students of Applied Science on completion of full-time education are vast. There are many possible careers within the scientific world and qualifications in Science subjects are acceptable as an entry in many other careers. Former students have progressed to follow these career paths: – Electronic Engineering, Forensic Science, Pharmacy, Mechanical Engineering, Armed Forces, Environmental Chemistry, Nursing, Biomedical Science and Computing. The Science course offered at Walsall Academy is designed to provide academic and vocational experiences. IT will prepare students for their choice of career in both the world of work and Higher Education. We have many visiting speakers including ex-students advising on apprenticeship opportunities. University led careers workshops are provided each year. Session 3 top up is offered for all students. Students at Walsall Academy study for either a single or double award BTEC Applied Science qualification. This incorporates all three science specialisms of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Unit 8 – Physiology of Human Body Systems

• 4 GCSEs (grades 9-4) or equivalent • Grade 4 in GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics • Grade 4-4 in GCSE Combined Science
