Course summary

Have you ever questioned ‘What happens after we die?’ or ‘If there is a God, then why is there suffering and evil in the world?’. In A-Level Religious Studies we will attempt to answer these questions. A Level Religious Studies is a deep thinking and critical subject which asks questions such as those above and more to discover what part religion plays in our world. Through the study of philosophy and ethical theories, this course will try to answer questions that people ask in everyday life. The content of this course is relevant to life today and provides skills and knowledge that may be useful for your future. In this subject you will develop skills such as critical thinking, the ability to evaluate key thinkers’ belief and the application of relevant sources.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades at 4 or above including English Language or Literature at a grade 5, a GCSE in Religious Studies is not required, but a Humanities GCSE is preferred. Progression from Year 12 to Year 13 is dependent on an end of year assessment in Year 12.

How you'll be assessed

There will be two 3-hour written exams at the end of year 13, with 100 marks per paper, each 50% of the A-Level grade. There is no coursework. The question marks range from 10 marks to 25 marks.
