Course summary

If you like arguing your case, then this is the course for you. As part of your studies, you will learn about interesting areas of law including the three foundation units of criminal, tort and contract law. Units include: • English legal system • law making • criminal law • tort law • contract law • nature of law (law and morality, law and justice, law and society) You will have the opportunity to learn in our brand new courtroom, due to open in September 2022, sponsored by the University of Portsmouth. Join our Law Society and take part in additional E6 law units designed to prepare you for university study and a career in law. There are visits to the Crown Court and Magistrates’ Courts, alongside visits to London, Parliament, the Supreme Court and Royal Courts of Justice. There is also usually an annual Humanities department residential trip. Previous destinations have included Iceland, Rome and Venice, Berlin, Munich and Krakow. Students will also be able to engage with presentations from magistrates, the police, and you will take part in mock trials and mooting. Opportunities for work experience will also be available and students are regularly informed of opportunities with local and national law firms.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including a grade 5 or above in GCSE English language.

How you'll be assessed

You will take three exams, which you will sit at the end of your second year.
