For those who want to develop data handling and probability skills learned at GCSE level and have an understanding of, and interest in, numerical methods such as using percentages and fractions. A great support for other subjects including psychology, geography, biology, business and economics. Units include: • personal finance including tax, National Insurance and loan repayments • handling data – statistical diagrams, averages and measures of spread • project management - critical path analysis • estimation techniques. This course teaches you to use mathematical methods for real-life problem-solving in areas including business, economics, psychology and biology. Maths can help us understand the world so we will look at news stories and discuss how the maths we learn can help us to suggest improvements and make predictions about what might happen in the future.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and a grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths. Core Mathematics can support any other course, but you cannot take A Level Mathematics with Core Mathematics.
Core Maths is assessed through 2 examination papers of 90 minutes each.
