This qualification is for you if you are 16 years or older and want to work with animals, either directly hands-on or within wider allied services or businesses. It is designed to provide you with a very wide range of specialist technical practical skills and detailed knowledge and understanding which will equip you to seek a diverse range of employment opportunities or to further learning and training within the animal care and management industries. This qualification gives you the opportunity to study a range of specialist technical practical skills and knowledge that build upon the core skills required to include how to: work safely around animals, be responsible for the planning and carrying out animal husbandry health and handling, and feeding and nutrition. You will also learn about animal behavior, animal breeds and welfare, and animal biology. As you progress onto the second year you will have the opportunity to specialize in a chosen area of interest Animal management or science. There is also a mandatory requirement to complete 150 hours of work experience as part of your course.
A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects graded 9-4 or equivalent, including English or maths and science.
You will be assessed using a variety of methods throughout the qualification including; Externally set assignments, exams, unit assignments, A portfolio of evidence, and optional unit assessment as required. This qualification is graded using Pass/Merit/Distinction/Distinction*
