Criminology is about crime and punishment. It is an exciting interdisciplinary subject that draws on Law, Psychology and Sociology. It enables progression to further education and employment in the sector and helps develop key skills that are highly valued by employers. The course is taught through planned lectures and discussions. In addition to classroom-based learning, there are a number of opportunities for students to extend their understanding of the criminal justice system through visits from outside speakers and trips to Law Courts and local universities. What areas are covered by the course? There are four units of study: Changing Awareness of Crime, Criminological Theories, Crime Scene to Courtroom and Crime and Punishment.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above(including English and Maths) is desirable; good computer skills and the ability to work independently.
The course is assessed through a combination of controlled assessment and external examination.
