Course summary
The A-level Product Design course is a rigorous, exciting, practical based course designed to inspire and develop the designers of the future through a multi-discipline, multi-material, approach. Students will work on developing key research, analysis, critical thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills. This is completed through a curriculum that is focused on using real-world examples and authentic learning experiences that reflect modern practice in the design, development, and manufacturing industries. The Product Design A Level is a design-led course. It enables students to develop key skills to ultimately complete a significant iterative design project that will use any materials selected by the students to design, develop, and manufacture a product that solves a problem or stakeholder need identified by the student. The key skills are: 1. Developing innovative design and development skills to communicate ideas to others. 2. To work collaboratively as a team to prepare for work in commercial design settings. 3. To develop intellectual curiosity about the design, development, manufacturing, and engineering industries. 4. To become independent critical thinkers who can apply their learning across a wide variety of different situations and contexts.
