A Level Fine Art provides an exciting opportunity for students to develop a broad range of art skills such as painting and drawing, printmaking, sculpture and lens-based image making/ installation. Students are encouraged to incorporate newer digital technologies in their work. The course requires students to make in-depth personal and imaginative responses to a given theme and has a strong academic element. Students learn how to respond to and discuss ideas, concepts and issues relating to Art and Design.
General entry requirements to study three Level 3 qualifications for Hillview Sixth Form are Grade 4 in both English Language and Maths together with 3 other GCSE grades at Grade 4 or above.Students will need to have achieved the subject-specific entry requirements, which for Fine Art are GCSE Art & Design Grade 5 or above in a creative Art & Design subject and Grade 5 in English Language
This course consists of two components. • Component 1, which makes up 60% of the mark, is in two parts: Personal Investigation (72 marks) and Personal Study (18 marks). • Component 2 is the Externally Set Assignment, which makes up 40% of the mark. Both components involve creative problem solving which requires students to undertake investigative and research work in addition to experimental exploration, looking at alternative ways of finding a solution.
