The study of history helps us to understand and explain the past and is a fascinating subject in its own right. The course allows students who have studied GCSE History to develop their enjoyment and understanding of major world events. You will study the British Empire between 1857 and 1967 as well as the rise and fall of Weimar and Nazi Germany, 1918-1945. The final component comprises a historical investigation, looking at the history of the USA from 1763 to 1865. You will examine primary sources, and extracts from historians and complete a 3,500-word piece of research. History is a popular and highly regarded qualification by both universities and employers. The skills that you acquire as a historian, the ability to think clearly, to weigh up arguments and to analyse problems, are highly desirable. History students gain access to a wide variety of careers including business, law, marketing, media, and politics as well as career pathways including archaeologist, archivist, curator, and teacher.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including two GCSEs at grade 6 from English / Maths / History (or equivalent subjects). GCSE History, whilst very useful, is not a requirement.
