Course summary

This course will give you an understanding of the range and diversity of the Performing Arts industry. You will learn about the jobs and organizations that make up the industry, how it is funded and how companies are supported and regulated. It aims to equip you with the knowledge and understanding of the wider business context for your chosen career route. You will be given the opportunity to develop a community arts project from a given brief. You will consider your creative skills and preferences and think about how these can be utilized in a way that benefits a community or a defined group of participants. You will develop knowledge and understanding of administration and planning, as well as the appropriate creative skills and techniques applicable to a project, learning how to monitor development and pilot practical elements in a way that will support the potential project and put a contingency in place. In the second year you extend your performance practice further through a range of units and performance opportunities. You will develop a wide range of skills on this course including your performing, evaluating, planning and group skills. You will practice your devising, research and development skills. Completing this course will also improve your communication skills.
