You will study a variety of different areas of Media Studies over the course, and it will comprise both practical and theory work. Key frameworks such as Media Language, Audience, Representation and Institutions will be covered, as well as a wide range of media theorists from the past and present. As it is a constantly-evolving subject, we continually update the content of the course to reflect the contemporary media environment. Currently, text formats covered include newspapers, magazines, radio, television, film promotion, video games, music videos, online media, advertising and marketing.
- Individual subject minimum GCSE requirements (these apply in addition to our Sixth Form entry criteria of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Maths*)
The course is linear, so both exams and the NEA (Practical Production) will be completed in the second half of Year 13. The external exams consist of a mixture of stepped (shorter) questions and longer essay-style responses. The Practical Production will be carried out in two Media forms of your choosing, subject to the agreement of your teacher.
