Course summary

A Level Mathematics has a simple 2:1 ratio of pure to applied content. Decision Maths is now only available in Further Maths. Over the two years you will have 8 lessons per fortnight in which the pure and applied modules are covered; you will have a subject specialist for each. You will be set compulsory homework each lesson during which content will be taught. At the end of each topic you will be tested on content covered so far to keep you on track throughout the A Level. We offer drop-in sessions to support your learning; it is advised you take advantage of these. In order to keep up with the demanding content, it is advised that all students should partake in roughly 5 hours of independent study per week. Maths teachers are always on hand to help with questions or queries. We ask that students and parents sign a learning contract to agree with this level of independent study, this reflects the importance of independent study.

Entry requirements

- A Level Mathematics is demanding, therefore we ask that students obtain a grade 6 or above in their Mathematics GCSE, this is to ensure that the students have a strong grasp of Algebra fundamentals because these are built on during the A Level course. - Individual subject minimum GCSE requirements (these apply in addition to our Sixth Form entry criteria of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Maths*)

How you'll be assessed

All exams are in the summer term of the second year. We will assess you at the end of the first year of the course in order to ascertain if you are ready to further your studies to the second year of the course.
