Course summary

The aim of the department is to foster an ability to learn independently as well as in groups, resulting in a genuine feeling of being a significant part of a team. You will need to be able to think fast and speak up. It is a collaborative effort and your classmates are a key resource. You will partake in investigations, presentations, discussions and debates. You will be taught how to handle information and structure arguments.

Entry requirements

- For the A Level course students should have obtained 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 or above and a grade 4 in either History, Classics or Geography. You don’t have to have studied Classical Civilisations in order to take it as an A Level, but you will require a deep interest in, and curiosity about, the ancient past. - Individual subject minimum GCSE requirements (these apply in addition to our Sixth Form entry criteria of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Maths*)

How you'll be assessed

You will have three exams at the end of the two-year course in the summer of Year 13. Unit 1 – Exam 2 hours 20 minutes. 40% of your A Level. 100 marks. Unit 2 – Exam 1 hour 45 minutes. 30% of your A Level grade. 75 marks. Unit 3 – Exam 1 hour 45 minutes. 30% of your A Level grade. 75 marks.
