Course summary

Computer Science is about problem-solving. You will be learning how to write programs and how computers work from an abstract point of view. This course has a mathematical approach and is challenging; you will develop your logical and thinking skills and there will be plenty of practical programming and some opportunities to work creatively in the context of coding. You will learn how to program in Python from the basics to object-orientated programming. You will also learn about associated programming concepts and techniques such as the Turing Machine and Data Structures which comprise 50% of the course content. On the theory side, you will learn how different types of data are stored in binary, how networks and the internet work, and database theory. In addition, this course covers the internal components of the computer and how the logic circuits inside them work. During your two years of study, you will undertake a work placement. You will also hear from a variety of industry speakers, visit career fairs, and attend workshops, trips, and visits.
