Course summary

Those who have studied the subject often go on to study biological degrees with an enthusiastic approach to the subject. However, not all students choose this root but instead 'use' their Biology A-level to help them get on to unrelated university degrees such as English, Business studies, and Law. Biology is recognised by universities as being a highly respected A-Level and look favorably on students studying it. In summary Biology is an exciting and relevant subject with both practical and fieldwork elements to the course taught by enthusiastic and dedicated teachers. AS and First year of A-level topics: 1. Biological molecules 2. Cells 3. Organisms exchange substances with their environment 4. Genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms Second year of A-level topics 5. Energy transfers in and between organisms 6. Organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments 7. Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems 8. The control of gene expression

Entry requirements

At least five GCSE grades 9 to 4, including GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics. GCSE Double/Triple Science grade 6, 6, (6). GCSE Maths and English grade 5. Must also pass an entrance exam, to be taken in July.
