You will be able to construct door frames, partition walls, roofing, floor joists and lay flooring. You will become familiar with fixed and transportable machinery and fully understand the principles of building construction. There will be opportunity to improve your employability skills during work placements. During this advanced carpentry course you will fine tune your skills in our purpose built workshop and become adept at building and installing first and second fix fittings. You will be able to construct door frames, partition walls, roofing, floor joists and lay flooring. You will become familiar with fixed and transportable machinery and fully understand the principles of building construction. There will be opportunity to improve your employability skills during work placements before you head off and start your career as a carpenter. You will cover topics including: • Health, safety and welfare in construction • Principles of building construction • Carry out first fix flooring and roofing • Carry out first fix frames, partitions and stairs • Carry out second fixing double doors and mouldings • Set up and use fixed and transportable machinery
Successful completion of the Level 2 course, and English and maths GCSE at grade 4.
Assessments will take place throughout the duration of the course. Practical tasks will make up 60% of the assessment, coursework will make up 30% and 10% will be made up of exams. Accuracy and completing tasks within a specified time frame will be important to the successful completion of the course. Constructive feedback from your tutor will also help you to improve and progress towards recognised industrial standards.
