A Level of Sociology is for students who have a keen interest in the way social structures such as social class, gender, and ethnicity impact our behavior, life chances, and identity. The course runs over two years and involves studying four subject modules: ‘Families and Households’, ‘Education with Research Methods’, ‘Beliefs in Society’, and ‘Crime and Deviance’. In addition, you will be using key sociological theories and research-based evidence to analyze these topics. Lessons are delivered using a variety of teaching methods including discussion, debate, and a group research task. You will be required to carry out further reading and written homework tasks regularly to broaden your subject knowledge. This subject will appeal to students who enjoy writing essays and analyzing different points of view. Sociology is particularly useful for those who wish to pursue a career working with people, for example, teaching, police, human resources, and nursing. Opportunities in social policy and social research would also be possible career pathways. After completing this course, many students have successfully gone on to study Sociology or related Social Science subjects at the undergraduate level.
