This exciting two-year course will encourage you to explore different textiles techniques, gain valuable skills and fully understand the design process. The practical nature of this course will get you designing and making samples ready for the production of larger pieces. We are surrounded by the tactile world of textiles, fabrics and constructed surfaces. These remain increasingly valuable in our digital world. During the next two years, you will be given the opportunity to explore and develop skills in the creative areas of printing, fabric dyeing, machine and hand stitching, felt-making, weaving and knitting. This is a practical course where you will build on your traditional art and design skills, like drawing, painting, and photography, and expand your skills in a number of traditional and new techniques. You will explore various aspects of textile design and be introduced to a range of techniques and approaches. You will develop new skills and learn how to document your progress in your sketchbooks.
An Art related GCSE grade 4 or an assessed portfolio of work.
You will be set regular assignments and projects that will create identified assessment points. These will feed into your progress tracking file, which will enable us to measure your progress and make grade predictions. In the second year, your assessment will be based on the work that you complete.
