Course summary

This course places an emphasis on Music Technology and the overall aspect of Music Production in recording, producing and live sound. It must be stressed that this course is not suitable for students who are only interested in 'Rock' music and performance. The skills of aural perception and listening to music with a critical ear is vital. Practical aspects include Studio Recording Techniques, Digital Sequencing and Live Sound Production. Students will also develop knowledge and understanding of recording and production techniques and principles as well as the history of Music Technology equipment. These skills are assessed through both practical and written examinations.

Entry requirements

For all Sixth Form courses, students must have five GCSE (or equivalent) passes at Grades 9-4, which must include Mathematics and English Language/Literature at a Grade 4 or above. The subject specific entry requirements for studying this subject at Advanced level apply: a minimum of Grade 4 in Music GCSE or P2 in BTEC equivalent (if taken). Students may be asked to complete an interview to assess popular music understanding and basic Music Sequencing Skills. This course is open to students who have a keen interest in developing their skills in live audio recording and every aspect of digital production and engineering.
