The Applied Science course covers a wide range of concepts in Physical, Chemical, and Biological Science, including cells and tissues; physiology; genetics; atomic structure and chemical and physical properties; inorganic and organic chemistry; energetics; fluid mechanics; material science and waves. The course also covers analytical, investigative, and preparative practical techniques, including individual research projects and forensic investigation; with an emphasis on developing practical skills.
Requires either four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths and combined science at grade 5 in science or a Level 2 BTEC in science at merit.
Students will complete 8 units, 5 of which are internally assessed by coursework. There are three externally assessed units, with 2 examined units (3 papers each) and 1 practical skills assessment; which is externally marked.
