English Literature will build on the knowledge, understanding and skills you learnt at GCSE. It will introduce you to the discipline of advanced literary studies, and requires reading of all the major literary genres of poetry, prose and drama. You will develop knowledge and understanding of the ways writers shape meaning in texts, the ways individual texts are interpreted by different readers and how texts relate to one another and to the contexts in which they are written and read. English Literature is considered a facilitating subject by Russell Group universities and a gateway qualification in many industries. It will prepare you for a range of higher education study; including Communications, English, History, Journalism, and Languages.. It will develop skills that can benefit students in a range of careers including; teaching, journalism, research, administration and translating.
