A Level PE is for strong sports performers who are interested in extending their knowledge and understanding of the systems of bodywork and how this impacts health and exercise. This course is predominantly theory, however there are regular opportunities to learn in a practical environment. Regular sports fixtures are available as well as trips, visits, and guest speakers. This course works well alongside other A Levels. You will gain knowledge about different theories of learning and the psychological factors that influence performance. Finally, you will study the history and development of sport and the influence sport has on society. During your two years of study, you will undertake a work placement. You will also hear from a variety of industry speakers, visit career fairs, and attend workshops, trips, and visits.
To study a standard A Level programme (three A Levels) you must have a minimum of five GCSEs grade 4 and above including English and Maths. Requires GCSEs in English, maths, and science at grade 4, plus PE at grade 5 if taken.
Assessment is both practical and written assessment: – Factors affecting participation in physical activity and sport. – Factors affecting optimal performance in physical activity and sport. Non-exam assessment: practical performance in one physical activity and sport. The written assessment contributes to 70% of your A Level grade and the practical assessment contributes towards 30%.
