Course summary

The Ancient History course comprises the study of two great ancient powers – Athens and Rome. In Year 12 students will study the relationship between the Greek states and the Persians, looking at the surprising victory of the Greeks over the Persian empire. Then the course moves on to consider the rise and fall of the Athenian empire and the impact of the culture of Athens through art, architecture, drama and religion. In Year 13 students study the development of the empire of Rome from a Republic to a Monarchy through the study of the infamous Julio-Claudian emperors and the Flavian dynasty. This study will enable students to come face to face with the debauchery of characters such as Caligula, Nero and Domitian.
