This course allows students to study the dynamic world of business in various contexts (e.g. large/small, UK focused/global, service/manufacturing). Understanding the way a business operates is essential for any student wishing to pursue a career in the commercial world. In the first year, we consider how a business operates from a functional perspective – we study how the key departmental areas of finance, human resources, production and marketing are run and managed on a daily basis. In the second year, we take our understanding of business to the next level and start to think as if we are the CEO (the boss). We consider how the different departments work together and how the whole business can be managed strategically to meet organisational objectives.
5 GCSEs grade 4 or above. In addition, GCSE grade 5 in Maths and English GCSE. It is not essential to have studied GCSE Business Studies.
The course is assessed by three exams at the end of Year 13 with a mixture of assessment styles including multiple choice, short answers, data response, case studies and essays. All three exams are equally weighted and two hours in length.
