This diploma aims to provide you with a range of essential and practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the hairdressing industry. The course covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training. You will study the following mandatory content: • Health and safety practice in the salon • Client consultation for hair services • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp • The art of colouring hair • Colour and lighten hair • Cut Women’s hair • The art of dressing hair • Working in the hair industry There will also be: • Structured work experience or work placements within their business • Classes/lectures given by industry experts • Employer’s input into projects and exercises • End-of-year show to highlight your work
A range of 3-2 grades at GCSE and a genuine interest in the hair industry.
You will be assessed by the following: • A service portfolio including evidence of practical service carried out with proficiency. • Graded practical assessments where you will carry out a complete service on a client. The service will be graded by centre assessors. • External examinations will test your knowledge and understanding from across the whole vocational area.
