You will complete 750 hours of work placement in a variety of settings to demonstrate your skills and competency with children. The theory work will consist of a ‘core’ set of underpinning knowledge, concepts, and skills. You will also gain specialist training covering occupational or industry-specific skills. Topics will include: • Understanding the education and childcare sector from ages 0 to 19 • Child development • How to support children and young people’s education • Safeguarding, health and safety & wellbeing • Understanding and managing behaviour • Observing and assessing children and young people • Equality and diversity • Special educational needs and disability • English as an additional language • Working with parents, carers, and wider families • Working with agencies and services that support children, families, and carers • Reflective practice and other forms of professional development
Five GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including Maths and English at grade 4.
You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including an externally-set examination and an employer-set project. There will be knowledge-based essays and direct observations at work placements to demonstrate competency for the industry.
