This course is ideal for those students who are interested in pursuing a degree in engineering or going on to a higher-level apprenticeship. It can be taken as a double A Level equivalent National Diploma or a single Extended Certificate alongside one or two other subjects respectively. You will study units on Engineering Principles, Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team, and Engineering Product Design and Manufacture as well as other units which may include a Specialist Engineering Project and CAD. The course covers the theory of engineering principles including relevant Maths and Physics. Within some of the units, there is practical work involving CAD and machining in the workshop.
At least 5 GCSEs graded 9-4 including English and 5/5 or above in Double Award Science and 5 or above in Maths. You would ideally have studied the higher tier content for Maths and Science as there is significant mathematical and physics content.
The course is partly assessed via exams and part coursework. For the single A Level equivalent course, the Extended Certificate is 67% externally assessed. The 2 A Level Diploma course is 33% externally assessed.
