A History A-level qualification has been designed to help students understand the significance of historical events, the role of individuals in history and the nature of change over time. They will gain a deeper understanding of the past through political, social, economic, and cultural perspectives. The topics available to them throughout the course will provide them with the knowledge and skills they require to succeed as A-level historians. There are 3 components: • A 200 Year breadth study of the Tudor era • An depth study of Russia in Revolution. • Coursework which at present is based on the fall of the Roman Empire.
A level requires the minimum of a level 5 grade in English and History at GCSE. Students who have not studied History at GCSE will be considered on an individual basis.
The final exam consists of 2 papers on breadth and depth studies, with 40% for each paper. The coursework component is worth 20% of the final exam.
