● Students will study technological and social change, looking at the multicultural nature of Hispanic society. They will study highlights of Hispanic artistic culture, including a focus on Spanish regional identity and the cultural heritage of past civilizations. They will learn about aspects of the diverse political landscape of the Hispanic world. ● Students will explore the influence of the past on present-day Hispanic communities. Throughout their studies, they learn the language in the context of Hispanic countries and the issues and influences that have shaped them. Students will study texts and film and will have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of their choice. ● Students will be expected to use language spontaneously to initiate communication; ask and answer questions; express thoughts and feelings; present viewpoints; develop arguments; persuade; and analyse and evaluate in speech and writing, including interaction with speakers of Spanish. ● With the new A-level spec. we will be translating an unseen passage from Spanish into English translating an unseen passage from English into Spanish. ● Spanish class sizes are usually quite small with 5 to 10 students – this is a good number for group discussion and group work, also allowing you all to support each other. ● To succeed in Spanish, research and individual study are an important part of the course. You should be prepared to work with others and in some cases lead the class discussions on the materials you have been studying. ● You will be expected to come to lessons having read the relevant area in the standard textbook before the lesson. This will allow you to get the most out of lessons and you will probably arrive at the lesson with questions already prepared.
